The Meadow Dance

She called him down to the meadow
to dance with her under the stars.
He followed, watching her in the shadows
as she told him of her love.
She twirled in her white gown,
Laughing as she moved.
She felt his arms around her
and the warmth of his breath
as he spoke softly in her ear.
The moonlight shone upon her  hair,
flowing down her back
falling over the flowers,
as they lay in the meadow grass.
The night grew quiet
but for the whispers of love.
When morning came she reached for him.
There was nothing there,
but the single petal of a flower
resting on her pillow
and the memories of a dream
She smiled and closed her eyes.
